Last Friday, May 15, 2015, 30 people gathered in the foyer of the Ophthalmology Clinic at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center for a ceremony to inaugurate the Dr. Eli Dahan Glaucoma Treatment Room. Dr. Dahan was an ophthalmologist who specialized in glaucoma. He passed away about two years ago, and his family decided to donate expensive equipment to the Ophthalmology Department in his honor.
In her speech thanking the family, Dr. Beatrice Tiosano, Department Director, noted Dr. Dahan's work and his important contribution to the treatment of glaucoma. She referred to his willingness to learn and share his ideas with numerous physicians and colleagues over the years, and the unique surgical method he used to treat the disease, a method she herself learned from him. She further stated that she is proud to be his successor in this regard.
Dr. Dahan's widow and his three children attended the event as did eye specialists from hospitals around the country, including Prof. Johnny Garzozi of Bnei Zion Medical Center, where Dr. Dahan worked.
"It was a very moving event," said Dr. Tiosanao, "Not only for me, personally, and our staff at Hillel Yaffe, but also for his acquaintances and colleagues, and especially his family, who remember how modest he was, despite his many accomplishments in terms of his surgical ability, which was outstanding, his relationships with his colleagues and students, and his constant willingness and desire to help."
