Endometriosis is the number one cause of chronic pelvic pain and infertility. It is estimated that 15% of all women of childbearing age are affected by this condition. Underdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis can lead to a great deal of suffering and hurt their quality of life.
Dr. Michal Amir completed her medical studies at the Technion's Faculty of Medicine in Haifa and performed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Emek Medical Center in Afula. She gained a subspecialty in advanced laproscopic surgery and endometriosis at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, Australia, where she worked as a senior physician in the field of her specialty. Upon her return to Israel, she was in charge of endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain at Bnai Zion Medical Center in Haifa. As previously noted, this month she was appointed as Director of Gynecological Endoscopy as well as head of endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain at Hillel Yaffe.
