In the CT unit of the Imaging Institute at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, two of the world’s newest and most advanced CT devices by Siemens were recently installed: SOMATOM Drive and SOMATOM Perspective.
CT scanners are a very important tool for imaging of the various systems of the body. It enables diagnosis of a very wide range of diseases and pathological processes in various areas of the body, and does so quickly and with high accuracy.
The Computed Tomography (CT) Unit at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center currently performs most CT scans, including brain, internal systems, eye sockets, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine and bones as well as angiography (CTA) to assess blood vessels in various areas of the body.

The new system offers a unique scan that enables very quick tests, with the lowest levels of radiation on the market, with no need for patients to hold their breath. For example, a very high quality scan of the body can be performed in under four seconds. Additionally, the new device enables a unique scan of the heart – “virtual cardiac catheterization” – at high speed (approximately 0.25 seconds) with minimal radiation, without the need for medication to lower the heart rate during the scan. Moreover, thanks to the quick scanning method and the software uniquely designed for children, CTs can now be performed on children with a 60% lower dose of radiation than with standard CT scanners and no anesthesia is required.
The system is designed with a wide opening and an especially wide bed, with no restriction on weight or body shape, and makes it possible to perform scans quickly in cases of trauma.
The SOMATOM Perspective CT provides maximum precision and in addition to routine scans also enables CT-guided invasive procedures such as biopsies and insertion of drains, thanks to the integrated guidance system that is the world's most advanced.
Dr. Alicia Nachtigal, Director of the Imaging Institute at Hillel Yaffe also welcomes the purchase of the two machines: “It is important for us to improve and streamline our work all the time. Without a doubt, such sophisticated devices help us significantly, and I am delighted and proud of that.”
