Babies, vaccinations and community relations

Last week, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center’s Newborn and Neonatal Care Department held a professional seminar for hospital staff and community professionals (the HMOs and well-baby clinics) responsible for the care of babies and children. 

“The seminar focused on heightening awareness of the winter season, in which RSV, one of the viruses that leads to respiratory diseases, may lead to pneumonia, particularly in babies that were born preterm,” said Dr. Michael Feldman, Director of the Newborn and Neonatal Care Department and the person who initiated the seminar. “However, the other and main objective, was to strengthen the relationship between the hospital’s medical-nursing staff with the medical-nursing professionals in the community, including at the HMOs and regional well-baby clinics.”

During the seminar, there were lectures given by Hillel Yaffe Medical Center experts on issues such as the risk of bronchiolitis in NICU “graduates” (presented by Dr. Amit Hochberg, a senior neonatologist), the disease and treatment (presented by Dr. Michal Stein, Director of the Infectious Diseases Unit), and follow-up of the disease from the respiratory aspect (presented by Dr. Vered Nir, head of the Lung Clinic).

The department staff also gave presentations on the work done in the department and invited attendees to continue the discussion through all avenues, for the benefit of the tiny department “graduates” and their health.
