Celebrating research

Hillel Yaffe Medical Center’s conference hall was decked out last week with posters of close to 80 research studies, a representative sample of the extensive research conducted at the hospital at all times and over the years.

“Research Day is a tradition and is held at the hospital once every few years,” said Prof. Avi Shotan, Director of Hillel Yaffe's Heart Institute and the head of the Research Day Organizing Committee. “It is a day on which our experts, from all sectors - medicine, nursing and paramedical, present research studies, scientific publications, articles and posters, as presented in the scientific literature and conferences in Israel and worldwide, extensive activity, by any measure.”

Prof. Shimon Marom, Dean of the Technion's Faculty of Medicine, opened the day by applauding the dedicated work of the hospital's researchers in all fields. Dr. Mickey Dudkiewicz, Director General of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, reiterated this and stated the importance of research and academia, which are a significant and integral part of the routine at the hospital and are critical to its development and existence.

Seven researchers, whose abstracts were selected as outstanding by the Research Day Organizing Committee, briefly presented their research. This was followed by a guest lecture by Prof. Lior Gepstein, Director of the Cardiology Institute at Rambam Health Care Campus, on the subject of stem cells, which captivated the entire audience. The day ended with the award of certificates of appreciation for the outstanding research studies and posters from the Laboratory Division, Emergency Medicine Department and the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department.
