We’ve already gotten our flu shots. What about you?

16/10/2018

Hillel Yaffe Medical Center employees began getting their flu shots this week as part of the annual “traditional” vaccination drive and at the same time as the call from the Ministry of Health and the HMOs to get vaccinated against the influenza virus.

Each year, the flu leads to extensive morbidity in all age groups. The virus is characterized by symptoms such as fever, a cough and muscle pain, which in most cases pass in several days without leading to complications. However, sometimes the virus leads to serious complications that can include pneumonia, perimyocarditis, meningitis and even death.

The flu vaccine is the most effective way to prevent the flu. The long-standing and widespread vaccination is a dead vaccine, which does not contain live viruses and therefore cannot cause influenza. Its side effects are mild and pass; there is usually a local reaction at the injection site that passes. You may not feel well, experience muscle pain and the like, which may continue for 48 hours, but cannot cause complications like the disease itself.

Don't hesitate, take responsibility and go get the flu shot!
