Hillel Yaffe Medical Center’s delivery room welcomed the new year with 21 babies, but a short review of the newborns in 5778 shows that 4,600 new babies came through Hillel Yaffe's Maternity Department over the past year. 5778 was one of the most productive years ever at Hillel Yaffe, and not only in terms of the number of births, but in many other aspects as well. The following is a brief review.
Let's start with some numbers
5778 saw a 7% increase in the number of visits to our outpatient clinics - approximately 290,500 people. The number of surgeries performed also rose by approximately 4% (over 12,600 surgeries a year), as did the number of dialysis treatments - almost 40,000 treatments (up 12%). As usual the numbers for ER visits were high - in 5778, about 120,000 people, approximately one third of which were admitted for hospitalization in the various departments.

And there’s much more
5778 was a very good year for Hillel Yaffe, in line with the rise in the number of patients, but also in terms of improvement in the quality and service indicators, purchase of innovative technologies and advancement of construction processes.
In terms of infrastructure and construction, the hospital opened a therapeutic relaxation garden for maternity ward patients, the first of its kind in Israel, through a donation by JNF The Netherlands through Keren Kayemet Le’Israel-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF), at a cost of NIS 1.5 million, and laid the cornerstone for the new NICU building, which will cost close to NIS 25 million.
Friends of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, headed by Mr. Moshe Morag, continued to contribute significantly to promote the medical center and helped raise the funds required to renovate the Department of Emergency Medicine and in other areas as well.
Additionally, new and special technologies were introduced such as an innovative device for the treatment of facialis (Bell's palsy) and vocal cord paralysis. The device generates electrical stimulation to improve the function of the affected nerve, use of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) to perform catheterization for disease of the pelvic veins - two services that Hillel Yaffe is the first to use in Israel.
New services were opened, some unique to Hillel Yaffe - an initial well baby clinic in the Maternity Department, use of laser technology when performing diagnostic and therapeutic hysteroscopy without anesthesia, gastroenterology and pediatric nutrition service and a pediatric cardiology service. Furthermore, a Rheumatology Unit was launched in the new Mental Health Service building, where the renovated Rehabilitation Unit is also located, and more.

In terms of service and customer experience, the hospital continues to run the Kesher Ayin project - a social initiative to improve healthcare professional-patient communication in the Emergency Room and launched additional new services for the benefit of patients - a recovery guide in the orthopedic departments, the Outstanding People service and additional services that make medical information accessible to the public in various ways.
The hospital is also continuing to work at the community level, with a great deal of activity in the community to promote health on a variety of issues with the towns in its area, including Binyamina-Givat Ada, Baka al-Gharbia, Menashe Council, Hadera and more.
In 5778, the medical center was enriched with new top-rate specialists in diverse fields, including plastic surgery, urology, gynecological surgery, gastroenterology and more.
In terms of academia and research, the hospital continues to provide centers of excellence - the number of outstanding instructors recognized this year by the Faculty of Medicine reached 10 experts and an outstanding unit, and alongside them, the School of Nursing, headed by Dr. Merav Ben Natan, continued its impressive 100% pass rate on the national licensing exams.
“We are very proud of our achievements in 5778,” said Dr. Mickey Dudkiewicz, Director General of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, “We do our utmost for our patients, and this can be seen in the excellent and professional teamwork of our dedicated employees. Without a doubt, we will continue our tremendous work. We will grow, expand, advance and improve in 5779 and the years to come.”
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year!
