No one can remain indifferent to the cold winter days we have been experiencing in recent weeks. This week, representatives from the Reem Association visited Hillel Yaffe’s Newborn and Neonatal Care Department, bringing a large selection of gifts, knitted and donated by senior citizens from the Menashe Regional Council, for the tiny preemies.
As one of their activities at Milo (the cultural learning center for the elderly of the Menashe Region), the senior citizens knitted and crocheted a variety of items that will keep the premature babies warm during the cold winter days. The items included hats, mittens, socks, and octopus-shaped dolls – that studies show remind the little ones of their umbilical cord, so that the encounter with a “familiar environment” soothes the babies and is reflected on their physiological indices.
Another donation was received thanks to arrangements made by Sara Zeira, Director of the National Knitting Circles, who brought woolen blankets for the preemies, all of which were knitted with love by women from all over Israel.
Yasmin Peretz, Head Nurse of the Newborn and Neonatal Care Department at Hillel Yaffe, thanked all the donors for their warm and beautiful gifts for the premature babies.
