Dr. Valeriya Semenisty |
Dr. Semenisty graduated her medical studies, cum laude, in Luhansk, Ukraine. She immigrated to Israel in 2004, and currently lives in Haifa. After completing her residency, she specialized in pediatrics and later in pediatric cardiology. After coming to Israel and passing the licensing exams required to practice medicine, she decided to complete an additional residency, this time in the demanding field of oncology. She completed her residency at the Rambam Hospital with honors and has served over the past 13 years as a resident and later senior physician in the Gastrointestinal Cancer Clinic (particularly pancreatic cancer) at Rambam. She has published research in the fields of cancer of the stomach, pancreas, and urinary tract, and is a member of the Israeli, American, and European oncology associations.
As noted earlier, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center’s Oncology Unit was established in 2013, and currently offers help to over 2,500 patients in the region around the hospital.
Dr. Semenisty’s plans include: Increasing the staff of the Oncology Unit and expanding the area where treatment is provided, in light of the large increase in the number of patients which the Unit helps. She also hopes to begin clinical studies, continue existing research, and conduct internal research, as well as hold multi-disciplinary meetings in the fields of the digestive system, urology, and pulmonology.
“I have entered a unit where the needs of its patients are constantly increasing,” notes Dr. Semenisty, “it’s a great challenge, and it is very important to increase the number of staff, as well as expanding the space where treatment is offered. I know there are plans to increase the activity of the unit for the benefit of its patients. For me, as a doctor, it’s important that everyone coming here is offered a comprehensive solution.”
