Yael Odem and her daughter Ruby are on their way home

About four weeks ago, Yael Odem experienced one of the most difficult moments in her life, as she defines it. While still in week 32 of her pregnancy, she was taken by emergency ambulance to the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center due to complete placental abruption and massive bleeding – a life-threatening situation for both mother and fetus.

After arriving at the hospital and after the staff speedily identified the problem, Yael was rushed to the operating room where, within just a few minutes, her baby was delivered by emergency caesarean section by Dr. Dvir Redder, a senior physician from the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department. The baby was hospitalized for continued treatment, observation, and follow-up in the Neonatal Care Department, in good condition despite her difficult birth.

Today, around four weeks after the birth, the baby, named Ruby, was released from the Neonatal Care Department at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in good health and amid lots of smiles and hugs to the staff.

Director of the Newborn and Neonatal Care Department Dr. Amit Hochberg congratulated the excited parents: “Every tiny preemie who is released home in good health is a great victory for all of us – the family and the staff. We always do our work with professionalism and sensitivity, but the parents’ involvement and presence when the preemie is hospitalized in the Neonatal Care Department is critical for him or her, and Ruby’s parents undoubtedly proved this. After such a complicated birth – for both mother and baby – going home after only one month in perfect health is an exciting achievement and the result of cooperation between all those involved.”

Yael emotionally thanked the staff for their devoted treatment and the warm care she had received: “Our biggest miracle was living opposite Hillel Yaffe – I wrote that already on my first day here. Without the staff here, I don’t know if we would have been here today, either of us.”
