The importance of early detection and treatment of strokes has become an important issue for professionals at medical institutions, in the community and in general. The conference, fully dedicated to strokes, held at HYMC for the second year, examined issues designed to increase awareness of this important subject. Timely diagnosis of a stroke and appropriate and rapid treatment can not only save lives, but also be critical for the patient's future quality of life.
The conference was organized by the HYMC Stroke Unit staff, which is headed by Dr. Sergio Shabtai, Mahmoud Abu Khalaf - nurse in the Neurology Department and the hospital's Stroke Coordinator, Oxana Porat - Head Nurse, Neurology Department, and Vered Cohen - Supervisor, Nursing Administration. Experts from all over the country participated in the conference - other hospitals, community health institutions, MDA and more.

At the start of the conference, HYMC Director Dr. Mickey Dudkiewicz and Nursing Director Ms. Dina Fainblat spoke about the advances in stroke treatment and the importance of ensuring that all professionals involved in the treatment of strokes are on the same page - before the patient arrives at the hospital, at the hospital and during rehabilitation.
They both specifically mentioned the work of the dedicated staff in the hospital’s Stroke Unit and the Neurology Department in this regard and in general.
Later in the day, there were a variety of professional lectures by the medical center’s top experts, MDA professionals and guest lecturers. Among the lectures: Stroke Triage, Cognitive Impairment and Stroke, Innovations in Medication Therapy for Acute Stroke, Management of an Acute Ischemic Stroke in the Intensive Care Unit, Advanced Imaging of Strokes and more.
At the initiative of the Coordinator Nurse, Mahmoud Abu Khalaf, in parallel with the conference, Hillel Yaffe's Stroke Trustees visited the inpatient departments to conduct an activity designed to increase awareness of stroke symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
