An internal look

“The internal medicine departments are the beating heart of every hospital. They are the initial platform for any type of treatment. They are essential, and we can't do without them.” Everyone who spoke at the start of the in-service training at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center agreed with this statement. As previously mentioned, the day was held under the banner of “Everything You Wanted to Know about Internal Medicine Departments and Were Afraid to Ask.” Those who brought greetings included Medical Center Director Dr. Mickey Dudkiewicz, Head Nurse Ms. Dina Fainblat, Head Nurse in the Government Hospital Division Ms. Inbal Yarkoni, Acting Nursing School Director Ms. Tamar Wachter, and the Supervisor in the Nursing Administration of Hillel Yaffe Ms. Vered Cohen, who organized and moderated the in-service training.

The day, held in cooperation between the senior staff and internal medicine departments along with the Nursing Administration of HYMC, addressed various issues faced by the nursing staff of the internal medicine departments. During the training, matters related to the difficulties, load, challenges and complexities faced by the staff in the internal medicine departments were raised, but also the beauty of working in internal medicine, which actually integrates all fields of medicine.

The lectures addressed the stigma associated with work in an internal medicine department (Iyad Darwashe, Head Nurse in Internal Medicine D), what work in an internal medicine department will look like in the future (Rina Avlevitch, Head Nurse in Internal Medicine C), the difficulties faced by the staff in their work in an internal medicine department and how to address them (Rotem Novoslesky, Head Nurse in Internal Medicine B), and the academic component of nursing in the internal medicine departments (Vlada Dubichek, Head Nurse in Internal Medicine A).

Another lecture was given by Dr. Limor Goldenberg, a senior physician in Internal Medicine B. She spoke about the importance of the close cooperation between the nursing and medical staff. The program ended with a panel of questions and answers, allowing the audience, which was made up of nurses in the various nursing professions and nursing students, to ask questions, some of which, as is fitting for internal medicine, have no simple answers.

The day was capped with a performance by a stand-up comedian, who talked about humor and creativity in nursing in the digital era. The performer was Rabea Majnadef, an internal medicine nurse at Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa.
