A scenario where a medical professional who is not a trauma specialist is called on to treat wounded in the field has become reality since October 7. This week, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center held its first workshop dedicated to teaching and training of medical and nursing staff, paramedics and medics who do not generally treat trauma victims or may need to assist significantly if trauma victims in a mass casualty or other incident require treatment.
The course, launched by the Israeli Medical Association, is being conducted at the hospital and led by the Surgical Division. Dr. Nimrod Aviran, Emergency Trauma Service Director, was responsible for the first course along with specially trained instructors. The workshop itself is 3-4 hours, once a month, and includes four stations, with each presenting a different simulation.
