The Shafrans at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center |
For years, Tamar and David Shafran dreamed of moving to Israel along with their four children. This past August, they made their dream come true and came to live in Binyamina. Tamar and David are medical specialists - she is a pediatric ophthalmologist, and he is a pediatrician.
The two decided to spend the adaptation period required of them as physicians coming from overseas together at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center. “Physicians who move to Israel need to undergo a training period in order to receive recognition and work as physicians in Israel,” said Tamar. “They welcomed us with open arms at Hillel Yaffe. The staff was very supportive and helped us with everything possible. We came to Israel on our own. Our extended family remains in the US, so on the one hand, it's tough to manage our household when we both have to work long hours. But, at the end of the day, we are very happy with the move and are adapting to the new situation,” they both say.
As noted above, the Shafrans came to Israel just about a month before the war started out of their deep sense of belonging and desire to raise their children in Israel. When they were asked if because of the current situation they have any regrets or want to move back to the US, Tamar smiled and said, “There is no other place for us and as far as we’re concerned, this is the right place to raise our family.”
