Kangaroo Week at Hillel Yaffe - here we don't hop, we just hug!

The NICU at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center marked International Kangaroo Care Awareness Week, during which the staff encouraged parents do as many hours of “kangaroo” care - skin-to-skin contact with their premature baby as possible

Kangaroo care is known to boost the immune system of premature babies, help normal neurobehavioral and mental development, contribute to weight gain, increase the production of breast milk and strengthen the bond between the parent and the premature baby. Throughout the week, the nursing staff in the NICU provided education for parents and handed out surprises and little gifts to encourage them to do kangaroo care.
