Hillel Yaffe Medical Center recently received a mobile imaging system for its operating rooms. It is used by the staff in complex vascular surgeries, endovascular treatments of aortic aneurysms, vascular diseases due to atherosclerosis, injuries and trauma injuries. The system was purchased with the help of Friends of Hillel Yaffe, Jewish Federations of North America and other generous benefactors. It cost approximately NIS 1.4 million. Today only a small number of hospitals in Israel use the system.
With the help of the system’s advanced technologies that make use of innovative fluoroscopy and imaging technologies, a hybrid procedure of catheterization and surgery at the same time can be performed, increasing the odds of saving lives of patients in very difficult and complex cases. The system is made up of a special operating table and a system of computerized arms that can be controlled by the surgeon, with maximum adaptation of movement and angle so that the range of imaging is wider, and the information obtained provides the surgeon with a comprehensive clinical picture.

Hillel Yaffe Medical Center’s Vascular Surgery Department Director, Dr. Moanes Ajaj, said, “The main advantages of the system are that it allows less use of contrast agents, while providing a broader and very high-quality picture of the treatment area, significantly less radiation exposure for the patient and staff and shorter surgery time. Another major advantage is the ability to move the device into any operating room, if necessary, particularly in an emergency, when we need to continue surgery in protected spaces. Use of this system helps us treat trauma cases and severe injuries, both in normal times and in emergencies, and to perform highly complex surgeries, while increasing the odds of saving patient lives.”
Senior Vice President of Jewish Federations of North America, Ms. Becky Caspi, said, “Jewish Federations of North America has raised over $850 million for Israel's urgent needs since October 7th. These funds symbolize our unity with all residents of Israel, and we are proud of our partnership with Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, which promotes its life-saving technological abilities during this very difficult time and always.”
