In May 2024, the Ministry of Health awarded Hillel Yaffe Medical Center a license to establish a PET-CT Institute, in response to the significant growth in cancer patients in the region and the need to ensure high availability of this vitally important and life-saving examination. The new institute will allow cancer patients to undergo their PET-CT scans at the same facility where they receive treatment, working with their medical team and eliminating the need to travel long distances to other hospitals.
PET-CT scans help diagnose and predict the effectiveness of cancer treatments as well as diagnose neurological conditions such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and more.
There is currently no PET-CT facility between Tel Aviv and Haifa. The new institute at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center will allow cancer patients to undergo their PET-CT scans at the same facility where they receive their treatment, working with their medical team and eliminating the need to travel long distances to other hospitals.
Cancer patients face very difficult physical and emotional struggles, some of the most challenging times of their lives. When it comes to detecting cancer, monitoring its spread or evaluating treatment response, a rapid response is critical. The establishment of the new institute will provide high availability of the scan, reduce wait times and ensure that results are delivered quickly. This will facilitate early detection of the disease, more effective monitoring and improve treatment outcomes.
In May 2024, the Ministry of Health awarded the hospital a license to establish a PET-CT Institute, in response to the significant growth in cancer patients in the region and the need to ensure high availability of this vitally important and life-saving examination.
The PET-CT Institute will be built in an existing building and be connected to the hospital's large Isotope Institute. The entire space will be rebuilt, in line with current regulations and standards for radiation protection, emphasizing both treatment safety and the convenience and comfort of patients and their families.
The institute will be spread out over 540 sq m. and be divided into two areas:
A “hot area,” including the preparation, test and recovery spaces, which are all radiation protected.
A “cold area,” including admissions, doctors’ offices, waiting areas and more.
The cost of establishment of the institute is approximately NIS 28.5 million. This figure includes:
One of the world’s most advanced PET-CT scanners, at a cost of NIS 11 million.
Construction of a spacious and modern institute in line with current regulations and radiation protection standards.
Additional medical equipment required to prepare the patient for the scan.
Comfortable furniture suitable for patients and their companions.
Friends of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center has taken on the ambitious goal of raising NIS 3.5-4 million in donations for this vital project. We are reaching out to you in the hope that you will recognize the importance and urgency of contributing to the establishment of the institute.
