The Asli family from Kfar Kara is used to shared birthday celebrations for Anan and his father. Now, the newest member of the family joined the tradition when he was born on September 1st, a date that most children mark as the first day of school.
Suha and Anan arrived at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center on August 31st, when she was 39 weeks pregnant. Suha was admitted to the High-risk Pregnancy Unit to be induced and waited. When labor began to progress, she was transferred to the delivery room, where she met Michal Kogalovsky, the midwife who stayed by her side throughout the entire birth.

"While we were in the delivery room," Michal said, "her husband mentioned that it was his birthday and that he was hoping the baby would be born that same day. Suha also hoped to give such an exciting gift to the father and grandfather, and just toward the end of my shift, she delivered naturally, without an epidural. It was one of the most wonderful births I've witnessed."
The mother and newborn are now hospitalized in the Maternity Department. "He's our first son after two daughters," Suha said with a smile. "During labor, I told Michal, 'You're not leaving until he's born,' and she stayed with me the entire time. The special date is the icing on the cake, but the most important thing is that he was born healthy."
The Maternity Department extends its warmest congratulations to the family and wishes them many more years of a shared photo of three generations on the same birthday – a unique family tradition.
