Rasing the Bar on Quality Indicators

In the Ministry of Health report on quality indicators, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center delivered outstanding performance in critical quality metrics, led by the fastest treatment for stroke victims in Israel - just 19 minutes from hospital admission to imaging

The report, published this week by the Ministry of Health, presents various quality indicators that are used to evaluate Israeli hospitals. This year, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center achieved outstanding results across a wide range of critical quality metrics. These impressive results reflect the hospital’s deep commitment to rapid, high-quality medical care that truly saves lives.

In the indicator for MRI/CT head scan timing for patients with suspected stroke, the hospital team achieved the most impressive result - a median time of just 19 minutes from emergency room admission through diagnosis to treatment. This is an excellent achievement that primarily reflects the important and coordinated collaborative effort by the ER (Department of Emergency Medicine) staff, imaging team, Neurology Department staff and Stroke Unit.

Another indicator highlights that in the Emergency Room, you will wait only about 8 minutes for initial assessment (triage screening) - far below the national target. This achievement ensures early identification of life-threatening conditions and facilitates faster medical intervention.

Yet another critical and important indicator in which Hillel Yaffe delivered excellent performance is cardiac catheterization within 90 minutes of arrival at the hospital for patients with cardiac events. The national target is 90%, while Hillel Yaffe reached 94%. Here too, rapid treatment by the cardiology team can significantly reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality among heart patients.

In the field of orthopedics, the hospital demonstrated 89% success in performing hip fracture repairs within 48 hours - above the national target of 85%. This indicator is a key factor in reducing morbidity and mortality rates, particularly among the elderly, making it highly significant.

Even in well-being indicators, the hospital is constantly striving to improve. For example, in a new indicator evaluated this year, measuring the adequacy of dialysis treatment, Hillel Yaffe is a leader once again, with 91% of patients receiving adequate treatment - well above the national target of 75%. Note that studies show a direct connection between adequate dialysis dosing and the risk of morbidity and mortality in patients with end-stage kidney disease.

"These results are not coincidental but are the result of ongoing investment in advanced equipment, training of our medical staff, and creating tailored protocols," said Hillel Yaffe Medical Center Director Prof. Mickey Dudkiewicz. "The hospital continues to innovate and develop technological and organizational solutions that enable us to provide faster and more efficient treatment. We are proud of these achievements and even prouder of the teamwork and our people who enable continuous improvement. But the true importance of all these metrics is ultimately measured in lives saved - which is our ultimate goal as a life-saving organization. This is what drives us to continue striving for excellence in every area."
