In Memory of a Fallen Soldier - for the Welfare of Patients

30/09/2025
The inauguration ceremony for the guest unit was held in the presence of Staff Sgt. Shachar Friedman's family, friends of the family, representatives of Lev Chabad, rabbis, the medical center's administration and staff. This is the third guest unit donated with the Lev Chabad’s assistance, offering a solution for patients' families who need accessible accommodation that is suitable for observance of the Sabbath and holidays during extended stays alongside their hospitalized loved ones.
Staff Sgt. Shachar Friedman, 21 years old at the time of his death, was a resident of Jerusalem. He was killed on November 18, 2023, in a battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
During the unveiling ceremony, his mother spoke about the legacy he left behind, a legacy of love for others and sensitivity to their needs, joy of life, and unconditional giving. She further stated that the family constantly strives to honor his memory in ways that reflect his values and messages. The hospitality unit was donated to Lev Chabad at the initiative of Shachar's brother-in-law of the Basch family. It found its purpose at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center following coordination by the Chabad emissary at Hillel Yaffe, Rabbi Shneur Matof, with the medical center's administration and the hospital rabbi, Rabbi Dovev Bindiger.
The guest unit is open to the general public, and accommodation can be arranged through the staff of the various hospital departments. It joins two others already operating on the hospital campus, providing vital support for families during challenging times.
