As a part of the surprise visits that the minister, Mrs. Yael German, is currently conducting in all the hospitals, the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center was also privileged to be visited today, Thursday. During her two hour visit the minister toured the Emergency Room of “Hillel Yaffe”, the Emergency Medicine Unit, the General Intensive Care Unit, the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and the Interventional Cardiology Unit, the hospitalization building of the Psychiatric Department, the Internal Medicine B Department, Pediatric Emergency Care Department and the Pediatrics Department.
The minister spoke with the staff in the different departments, as well as with patients and their families. They wished her luck in her position. During her visit she managed to witness the overpopulation in the Internal Medicine Unit up-close, which in the last week reached 160% occupancy. Likewise, Prof. Meir Oren, Director General of the medical center, showed her the difficulty of hospitalization in the General Intensive Care Unit and in the Psychiatric Department.
The minister requested that the accompanying staff and the staff in the departments describe their main difficulty in their jobs and showed great interest in all the issues that were raised before her, such as the burdensome work load, the problematic standards system, financial difficulties and more.
At the end of the tour the minister expressed thanks for the great information that was presented before her and said that she is happy that despite the many problems, the staff at the hospital succeeds in continuing to maintain its areas of excellence and provide the local population with maximal service.
