A new-generation professional library, functional, aesthetic work and study spaces, reading areas, computer stations, quiet and “noisy” study areas – the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center debuted all these and more to those who attended the inaugural ceremony of the hospital’s new Medical Sciences Library.
The library, whose planning and construction took about three years, offers all the modern services befitting academic research and study, from computers to access the electronic collection of journals, books and databases, to a small coffee corner for people studying in groups and alone in the “noisy” part of the library.
Ms. Ariella Ehrlich, Library Director, notes that the division between a “noisy” area and a “quiet” area, as well as the new library’s design in its entirety is the result of much thought that was invested in the needs of the medical and nursing staff and the students who visit the place. Prof. Meir Oren, Director General of the Medical Center, added that the thought invested in the needs of the study environment is an integral component of the efforts the administration of Hillel Yaffe makes to promote academia and research.
Prof. Eliezer Shalev, Dean of the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine in Haifa, agreed with this assessment during his tour of the new library, saying, “I congratulate the hospital for having the vision to build the library’s new, modern system. We see great importance in staying current and sharing medical information. I hope and believe that this work will be realized in the hospital’s research and publications in the future.”
As stated, the library will serve the various hospital staff such as students who work there. However it also offers services to community physicians. Now all they need to do is go there, sit comfortably, enjoy the carefully designed space and read.
