Vascular disease, gastroenterology, pediatric mental health and finance - four key positions were staffed in recent months at HYMC, all due to the retirement of those who held the jobs previously.
The first appointment was of Dr. Ofer Galili to the position of Director of the Vascular Surgery Unit. He replaces Dr. Isaac Portnoy, who retired. Dr. Galili is a new member of the hospital staff. He is a graduate of the Technion's Faculty of Medicine and specialized in general surgery at Bnai Zion Medical Center and vascular surgery at Carmel Medical Center in Haifa. During his residency, he spent two years conducting research on vascular diseases at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA. He also assisted establishing the Vascular Surgery Service at Baruch Padeh Medical Center, Poriya in Tiberias, and has extensive experience in vascular treatments and surgery, particularly on arteries.
The second appointment is of Dr. Yael Kopelman as Director of the Gastroenterology Institute. Kopelman is a long-standing physician with Hillel Yaffa, who over the past three years has served as the Director of the Invasive Endoscopy Unit at Hadassah Ein Karem's Gastroenterology Institute in Jerusalem. Dr. Kopelman is a graduate of the Technion's Faculty of Medicine. She specialized in internal medicine at Rambam Health Care Campus and then continued to specialize in gastroenterology at Hillel Yaffe and in endoscopic ultrasound. She further studied medical education in the US. She served as a senior physician and Deputy Director of the Gastroenterology Institute at Hillel Yaffe through 2010. Dr. Kopelman replaces Prof. Zvi Feirman, who retired last month.
The third appointment is of Dr. Tatiana Evert as Director of Pediatric and Adolescent Mental Health Services. She is a specialist in adult psychology as well as in pediatric and adolescent psychology. Dr. Evert earned her degree from Khabarovsk University in Russia. She continued her studies in adult and pediatric psychology at Tel Aviv University and went on to complete her specialization in adult and pediatric psychology at Beer Yaakov-Ness Ziona Mental Health Center, where she also served as a senior physician and then as head physician in the Department of Pediatrics. Until recently, Dr. Evert was the director of the Pediatric and Adolescent Mental Health Clinic in Lod, and she is now completing an MA in public health and Health System Management at Bar-Ilan University. Dr. Evert replaces Dr. Einat Alkabetz, who retired.
The fourth appointment is of Liz Mishali, CPA, who was named HYMC Finance Manager. Mishali, who began working at the hospital in 2005, has up until now served as Deputy Finance Manager. She replaces Riki Leshem, who retired. Mishali earned a BA in business administration from the College of Management, an MA in legal studies from Bar-Ilan University and is an Israeli CPA. In the past, Liz Mishali (CPA) served as Finance Manager of Baruch Padeh Medical Center, Poriya and as a Team Leader at accounting firm, BDO Ziv Haft.
Prof. Meir Oren, HYMC Director General, welcomed these new and important appointments, saying that they are all experts in their fields and have proven abilities that serve as yet another stepping stone in ensuring that the hospital flourishes and develops in the future. "Your success in your new jobs means success for all of us," said Prof. Oren.
