During the celebrations in honor of Chinese Independence Day and at the peak of the conference on emergency preparedness, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center's director, Prof. Meir Oren, was invited to be one of the eight experts to receive an award in recognition of their contribution the the development of friendly relations with China.
The award was given to Prof. Meir Oren by the Governor of Xinjiang on behalf of the Chinese government in the presence of senior Chinese medical, military and police officials. Prof. Oren was one of eight experts from around the world in fields such as agriculture, culture and more, who were selected by the Chinese government to receive the special award, considered to be especially prestigious.
During his stay in China, Prof. Oren met with Prof. Chan Ran, who is the person responsible in China for the Chinese chapter of the International Committee for Emergency Preparedness in China, and the two discussed strengthening the cooperation between China and Israel in preparing for various emergency scenarios. In their meeting, Prof. Oren was officially appointed as Prof. Chan's deputy on the Committee, a very important appointment at the global level.
"In recent years, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center has been actively engaged in helping teach and integrate emergency preparedness procedures at various hospitals in China," said Prof. Oren. "During the conference, I met with senior military and police officials, who wanted to sign cooperation agreements between Hillel Yaffe and the military hospital in Chongqing and a police hospital. I also visited the Shanghai Maternity and Infant Hospital, and we will be signing a cooperation agreement with them in the near future. This activity, done out of a mutual commitment to this important issue, created friendly relations that also help Israel and its relations with the Chinese government. Obviously I was delighted to receive the award, and I thanked my hosts profusely, and there is no doubt that the main objective here is to learn from each other in both the long and short term," he said.
