“At the Forefront of Research”

During the Research Day that took place at “Hillel Yaffe”, research works, posters, articles and scientific publications were presented from the past three years, by the specialists of the hospital in the fields of medicine, nursing and allied health professions

About 80 research works, which constitute a representative sample of the research activity, covered the walls of the lobby of the conference hall of the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center this week, in the framework of a Research Day that takes place every few years at the hospital.

 

“The purpose of the Research Day is to present research works, scientific publications, articles and posters by the specialists of the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, as presented in scientific literature at conferences in this country and abroad”, explains Prof. Avi Shotten, Director of the “Hillel Yaffe” Cardiac Institute, and chairman of the Research Day organizing committee. “On the current Research Day about 80 selected posters were presented while in the summaries book that traditionally accompanies the Research Day, apart from the summaries, about 450 publications of the various departments were compiled from recent years in scientific literature in this country and abroad. Extensive activity, from any point of view”, he concludes with a smile.

 

On the Research Day itself, more than 250 people were present, among them, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the Associate Dean of the “Ruth and Baruch” Faculty of Medicine of the Technion in Haifa, specialists from the fields of medicine, nursing and the allied health professions, as well as the hospital staff.

 

Prof. Eliezer Shalev, Dean of the Technion Faculty of Medicine opened the day with praise for the dedicated work of the researchers at the hospital in all areas. Prof. Meir Oren, Director of the Medical Center, concurred with these sentiments, remarking on the great importance of the research and academic work that constitute a vital and integral part of everyday life at the hospital. In addition, Prof. Oren emphasized the great importance of the research and teaching activity to medical students, residents, and students of nursing and allied health professions. This activity ensures the professional and medical excellence in optimal treatment of patients. Prof. Oren expressed the tremendous feeling of pride he felt on such days that summarize such extensive activity.

 

Two guest lectures followed, by Prof. Michael Aviram, Associate Dean of the Technion Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Doron Kopelman, Director of Surgery B Ward of the “HaEmek” Medical Center.

 

In addition three research works, which had won the awards for outstanding research works, were presented by Assistant Prof. Yoram Folman, a physician in the Orthopedic B Department, who had undertaken research on the subject of bone tissue engineering by means of stem tissue whose source is in fat extract; Dr. Ma’anit Schapira, Director of the Laboratories Array, who undertook a study on release of a protein known as Heparanase from thrombocytes; as well as a lecture by Assistant Prof. Aharon Primerman, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Unit, who reviewed the effectiveness of using an integrated system of intracoronary ultrasound and imaging during catheterization procedures.

 

The Research Day concluded with the awarding of certificates of merit for outstanding works as well as outstanding posters from the areas of Nursing, Oncology, the Heart, Social Services, Trauma and Imaging.
