Hillel Yaffe Medical Center participated in a national drill simulating a biological attack. The drill involved medical, military, police, security and other personnel.
The hospital drilled a scenario of discovery of unusual morbidity in the inpatient units, emergency room and more. The drill was conducted with the Ministry of Health, the hospital in Nahariya, regional rescue and emergency services, the HMOs and more. Others present for the drill, who were there to learn about how things are done in this unique type of emergency, included representatives of the German Ministry of Health from Berlin, and physicians who were members of an Italian delegation participating in a course on emergency medicine.
Dr. Mickey Dudkiewicz, Deputy Director of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, said, "Drilling a scenario where there is a biological pathogen and fear that there will be an outbreak is extremely important. The hospital has very strict procedures in this regard, and we hope that we never find ourselves in this situation."
