New at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center: An MRI device

29/12/2014

After waiting many years to receive the approval of the Ministry of Health to open an MRI Institute and purchase a special device, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center opened an MRI unit equipped with an advanced Philips Ingenia MRI. It is part of the hospital's well-established and respected Imaging Institute and with the Ministry of Health's approval, it can now be opened.

The total cost of the project reached NIS 14 million and including hiring and training a team of physicians and technicians, purchasing special equipment and extensive construction. The unit is managed by Dr. Roni Shreter, a neuroradiology specialist, who joined the Imaging Institute's senior staff.

Some of the device's clear advantages: its large aperture (70 cm) helps accommodate patients and reduces anxiety. It is more comfortable and offers a technological advantage that enables tests to be run with minimum movement of the patient.

The purchase of the device was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Fellowship of Christians and Jews, which donated NIS 1.6 million. Additional funding came from the Ministry of Health and the medical center's Research Fund. Furthermore, based on their understanding of the importance of having a permanent MRI institute in the region, businesspeople, companies and heads of local authorities in the vicinity of the the medical center also pitched in to help, donating NIS 800,000 at a meeting on the subject.

Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, President of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews said, "The Fellowship has been working for years to strengthen the systems for treatment and defense of the citizens of Israel. We strive to equip hospitals with the finest equipment so that all citizens will be able to enjoy the finest routine and emergency treatment. The donation for the MRI device, the sixth donated by the Fellowship to hospitals throughout Israel, was made possible thanks to donations from thousands of Christians who strongly support Israel around the world. With their support, they want to strengthen the Jewish People and the State of Israel."

Prof. Meir Oren, Director of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, added, "We have waited a very long time to receive the license for the device and operation of the professional MRI Unit. I have no doubt that the MRI technology is absolutely an essential component of all diagnostic tools and particularly in states of physical illness, and I am delighted that we can now provide this important service, which will shorten waiting times for residents of the region and make it possible for them to receive this important service close to their homes.

MRI: Good and safe tissue scan

An MRI is a powerful magnetic resonance imaging device used to conduct a noninvasive scan and imaging of the internal anatomy without the use of X-rays (ionizing radiation). Dr. Alicia Nachtigal, Director of the Imaging Institute, notes that the advantage of MRI, aside from not emitting ionizing radiation, is in its ability to delineate soft tissues without damaging other tissues. Additionally, this method of imaging enables scans of the body at various angles, without the patient having to change position.

The unit's services are open to the general public. To schedule an appointment, please call 04-6188419. Receipt of the service is contingent upon a referrin.
