Glaucoma is a group of diseases that cause irreversible optic nerve damage, damage to the field of vision and deterioration that even lead to blindness. Glaucoma is generally associated with increased intraocular pressure, although glaucoma may occur even when intraocular pressure is normal. Glaucoma is treatable, and when treatment begins early, irreversible damage to the optic nerve can be prevented.
The Glaucoma Clinic provides a full range of services to glaucoma patients, including diagnosis by examination in the clinic as well as auxiliary examinations of field vision and OCT. Treatment includes medication, laser and surgical procedures.
The surgical procedures performed at the clinic are among the most advanced in the world. In most cases, they are performed under local anesthetic in order to minimize intraocular pressure. Procedures include trabeculectomy, as well as a recently introduced method of filtration, which involves the insertion of a miniscule Ex-Press implant which drains the intraocular fluid.
