Improved conditions for mothers and newborns

Congratulations: the renovation and upgrade of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center's Maternity Ward has been completed. Right before the holiday of Shavuot, let's take a peek at the new "baby"
6/06/2016

Improved accommodation, shiny hallways and advanced equipment - Hillel Yaffe Medical Center's  Maternity Ward recently opened newly renovated rooms and nursery, and now, aside from uncompromising professional care, women and their families can enjoy the same kind of environment as at a private hospital.

The Maternity Ward now has 20 rooms, six of which are designed for full rooming-in (where the mother and baby remain together 24/7), a service that has been offered by the ward for the past ten years. Some of the rooms are designed for three women, some for two and some are also single rooms. Each room has its own shower and bathroom. The rooms are all equipped with adjustable electric hospital beds that can become a comfortable nursing chair. Additionally the dining room and kitchen were renovated, with the culinary side remaining unchanged - rich and diverse meals with a wide selection - up to the same standard of a five-star hotel.

Additionally, a training room was built and all of the trainings routinely offered in the department are held in the room: Post-birth training, exercise post-birth, etc. During visiting hours, this room will also function as a room for families and it is appropriately equipped, with a refrigerator, television, recliners, etc.

Another change the ward is that it is now possible for a woman's spouse to accompany her when undergoing a Cesarean section.

The Nursery Unit, including a special nursing room, was also completely redone. There the new mothers continue to enjoy nursing education and improved accommodation for the tiny infants. As part of this effort, the discharge rooms were redone and a special training room was built, where the nursing staff provides new parents with training before discharge. Support workshops for parents whose babies are in the NICU are also conducted in this room.

This extensive renovation, which took about one year, comes on top of the remodeling of the delivery rooms in 2014-2015. Prof. Motti Hallak, Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, and Dr. Michael Feldman, Director of the Newborn and Neonatal Care Department, say that the work done done to upgrade and expand the departments enables the division to create a situation in which along with excellent service that does not compromise on quality, women and their families enjoy accommodation on par with those in private medical settings. All of this was done for the benefit of the women and their babies. Extensive renovation of the NICU is being planned as well as creation of outdoor waiting areas, to serve as a "green lungs," that will improve the experience of the new mothers, their families and the tiny patients.
