The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center welcomed seven babies as the Jewish New Year (5777) started. The first to be born on the holiday eve and to welcome the New Year exactly as most of the Jewish People were sitting around the family table, saying the blessings over pomegranates, dates and fish heads, it was not other than the son of Dr. Eyal Behrbalk, Director of the Spinal Unit of Orthopedics B at Hillel Yaffe. For Dr. Behrbalk and his wife Jenny, residents of Hadera, this was their first born, so that his birth was a first in all respects.

"It was clear to us that we would have the baby here," said the two, "because we know the excellent staff of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and because we trust them so much," they said with a smile, noting that the birth and hospitalization were above and beyond what they could have expected.

As noted above, 24 babies - 13 boys and 11 girls - were born over the thee-day holiday. Dr. Haim David, Head of the Delivery Room, said that the month of holidays and the months of September and October are always considered big baby months. "We closed out 5777 with about 4,000 births," he said, "I'm sure that next year, particularly now, after the department was renovated, the number will increase. We, of course, will continue to provide optimal personal service to all women who choose to give birth here. I wish us all a fruitful year."
