This was not how the Afudi family from Hadera had planned to celebrate the bar mitzvah of their son, Maor. On the day he was to have been called up to the Torah, he experienced violent stomach pains and was hospitalized in the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center Pediatrics Department. Rav Aharon Kobitshek, who had prepared him for his bar mitzvah, got in contact with the family and told them that Maor could be called up to the Torah in the hospital too. All of them immediately harnessed themselves to organize an especially moving bar mitzvah for Maor on the lawns of the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center.
Wearing a new tallit, surrounded by family and hospital staff, Maor was called up to the Torah. As part of the Friends of Hillel Yaffe Medical Center’s “A Cake for Every Child” project, an idea initiated by organization member, Mr. Yoram Raviv, Director of the Pediatric Wing, Dr. Adi Klein and Mr. Raviv presented him with a surprise lavish cake for his bar mitzvah.
Maor was extremely moved by the gesture and thanked the hospital staff for the treatment he received and the surprise, delicious gift.
Wishing you mazel tov!
