Endocrinology is a branch of medicine that studies the way cells and organs communicate to ensure that all parts of the body work in harmony. Endocrinology combines both medical treatment and preventative care, teaching patients how to engage in healthy behavior when faced with disease in order to minimize damage and improve their quality of life. Accordingly, the Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit treats all facets of disease and how it affects the lives of patients, in an attempt to minimize the impact of the disease and create a healthy, pleasant life for patients. The unit diagnoses, treats and monitors hormonal and metabolic diseases – diabetes and blood fat; thyroid, hypophysis and adrenal diseases; bone diseases such as osteoporosis, kidney stones and sexual dysfunction.
The unit conducts clinical studies on diabetes.
