The Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit is engaged in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of hormonal and metabolic diseases:

• Diabetes 
• Obesity 
• Hyperlipidemia 
• Endocrine hypertension 
• Thyroid disorders 
• Pituitary gland (hypophysis) disorders 
• Adrenal disorders • Sex hormone disorders 
• Calcium metabolism disorders (parathyroid) 
• Bone diseases (osteoporosis and others) • Turner syndrome 
• Hypoglycemia

What is endocrinology?

Endocrinology is a branch of medicine focused on hormones - substances that are secreted in one area of the body to communicate with cells and tissues in other areas. When there is a surplus or deficiency of hormones, damage occurs to the body. Most of these conditions can be treated with medication, and in some cases, adopting a healthier lifestyle also plays an important role. Diabetes is one of the most common diseases related to hormonal disorders.

Our staff

The unit’s staff, which includes its physicians, a nurse and dietitian, develops a personalized care plan for each patient and recommends how they should manage their condition to ensure the best possible well-being and health.

Range of medical activities in the unit

• Medical follow-up of previously hospitalized patients at the outpatient clinics. 
• Consultation by a doctor or nurse for patients hospitalized in the various departments at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center. 
• Educating patients and their families on self-management of diabetes. 
• Nutritionist consulting and follow-up. 
• Outpatient endocrine investigations (dynamic endocrine tests). 
• Day hospitalization for intravenous administration of medications. 
• Day hospitalization for education and connection to diabetes treatment technologies.
