This is a dedicated group with the primary goal (and name) of “Movement as Pain Treatment”. The group is led and guided by a qualified physiotherapist, with a B.Ed. in Physical Education – Iris Gronau. The workshop focuses on improving quality of life and coping with pain, using exercise and movement, and is aimed at people suffering from chronic pain, such as fibromyalgia, chronic back pain, etc. It will take place every Monday afternoon at 4 p.m.
physical exercise group for those suffering from chronic pain
“The idea for a workshop has already been in the works for several months, emanating from the understanding and knowledge that one of the important components in treating chronic pain is physical exercise,” explains Yael Kirbs Cohen, Director of the Physical Therapy Service at the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, who initiated the group together with Dr. Midbari. “There are no small number of myths and popular sayings about chronic pain, such as: ‘If it hurts, it is a sign of damage,’ ‘bending and lifting will make my back pain worse,’ ‘there is no solution to my chronic pain and the problem in functioning it created,’ etc. We hear these a lot from people who suffer from chronic pain. In the group we will speak about the different myths and do strength-building and flexibility exercises and more, with the goal of improving strength and endurance, and increasing the ability to cope with pain.
It is important to know that there is no limit on the number of sessions. Every session has a token fee of only NIS 40.
Those interested in registering for the workshop need to bring a referral from the family physician authorizing their joining an exercise group taught by a physiotherapist. Likewise, if the patient is regularly treated by an orthopedist/ neurologist/ rheumatologist/ neurosurgeon, please also bring an authorization from them.
