Description

The Urology Department staff includes senior physicians who are urology specialists. Urology is a branch of medicine that studies and treats urinary tract infections in both men and women as well as male reproductive diseases.

The Department specializes in the following areas:

  • General urology
  • Urological oncology and special oncological surgeries to restore the bladder – bladder substitution, bladder continence stomas, radical and retropubic perineal prostatectomy
  • Laparoscopy: the surgeries performed in the Department are carried out by laparoscopy, a procedure that minimizes pain and length of hospitalization
  • Pediatric urology – treatment of birth defects, treatment of urinary tract infections and any other urological problems in children
  • Surgery on the reproductive system: plastic surgery to improve penile appearance, correction of penile curvature, penile augmentation, circumcision corrections. Innovative endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery to treat stones in the urinary tract
  • Sexual health service: treatment of sexual dysfunction in both men and women
  • Surgery to improve male fertility
  • Conservative treatments and minimally invasive surgeries to treat women who suffer from urinary incontinence and bladder diseases

Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery Service

As part of the Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery Service, the Clinic treats kidney stones. The Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery Service specializes in innovative surgery to treat stones in the urinary tract, tumors, stenosis, etc.

The Kidney Stone Clinic offers patients an integrative, comprehensive and unique treatment provided by urologists, nephrologists and endocrinologists to treat the existing stone as well as to prevent the formation of kidney stones in the future.

Most kidney stones are currently treated with minimally invasive procedures, which are replacing open surgery, which until recently had been the norm. State-of-the-art instruments and laser technology facilitate the treatment of urinary tract stones through a tiny opening, eliminating the need for incisions. Kidney and ureter stones are crushed using extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) and an endoscope. This technique is also used to treat other problem such as stenosis, to remove tumors and to correct urinary tract defects. Large kidney stones are treated with the minimally invasive Percutaneous nephrolithotomy and nephrolithotripsy (PCNL) procedure.

Synergo treatment for bladder cancer

A complementary treatment for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, which combines mitomycin C chemotherapy together with heating the bladder with radio waves. Heating the bladder wall together with flushing with chemotherapy enables better infiltration of the substance into the tissue, and has been proven to prevent the illness’s recurrence or progression.

This is the best possible option for patients who have had other failed conventional treatments, such as flushing the bladder, and thereby offers them an additional chance to be healed from their disease before a decision is made to remove the bladder (cystectomy).

In addition, this technology offers a solution for patients who cannot be operated upon under general anesthesia due to other serious diseases, a great number of tumors, or the disease returning very quickly.

The treatment is performed in the clinic and takes about one hour, and afterwards the patient can return to his regular activities. The number and frequency of the treatments will be decided on an individual basis by the urologist.
