The Surgery A Department is affiliated with the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion, Haifa. The department’s physicians have studied at the leading centers in Europe and the United States, and gathered a great deal of experience in a range of complex surgical procedures in general surgery. The department specializes in oncological surgery of the abdominal cavity, such as the stomach, colon, pancreas, and is even recognized as a center for pancreatic surgery – for both benign and malignant diseases. In addition, a wide range of research activity takes place in the department, which is published in prestigious medical journals worldwide.
Services Available in the Department
The department offers diagnosis, pre-operative treatment, and surgery for all areas of general surgery: gallbladder and bile duct, various hernia operations, infectious diseases of the small and large intestine, and spleen surgery. Most operations are performed using laparoscopic surgery.
Patients suffering from malignant diseases will only be operated on after a multidisciplinary discussion, involving senior oncological and radiological staff, so as to provide the very best and individualized treatment for each patient.
Likewise, the department includes a center for bariatric surgery. The patient must receive authorization from a multidisciplinary acceptance committee, which includes several specialist physicians, to undergo the surgery.
The nursing staff in the department is comprised of qualified nurses, with academic degrees and training in surgery. The nursing approach is based on an all-encompassing and holistic view, placing the patient and his or her family at the center, and its goal is to provide high quality and professional treatment, while preserving human dignity and the patients’ rights.
Trauma Division
The department is responsible for the medical center’s Trauma Division during normal times and emergencies, and is even, as one of the leading centers in Israel, recognized by the Ministry of Health as a regional trauma center.
Consultation Clinics
The department operates consultation and follow-up clinics managed by senior physicians in the following fields:
General Surgical Clinic – the clinic offers follow-up, diagnosis, and continued treatment for patients who need to have surgery, or patients who have already had surgery and are invited to come for a check-up.
Breast Health Clinic – the clinic carries out early detection tests for breast cancer, testing for women at high risk, and follow-up for women who have previously suffered from breast cancer. Likewise, the clinic offers multidisciplinary professional solutions for breast diseases, including malignant and benign tumors in partnership with health care services in the fields of oncology, plastic surgery, and medical imaging, so as to provide a comprehensive solution for its patients.
Obesity Clinic – the clinic offers follow up and continued treatment to patients who have undergone bariatric surgery, including services of a dietician.
Proctology Clinic – the clinic provides diagnostic and testing services, and conservative and surgical treatments in the areas of the anus and rectum, such as hemorrhoids, fissures, and fistulas.
It should be noted that the department’s doctors provide services for members of all health funds, so that the treatment continuum is maintained even after the patient is released. |
