The Breast Surgery Unit operates as part of the hospital’s Surgery Division. The unit offers solutions and services to female and male patients with breast diseases, in close cooperation with other hospital units and close connection with doctors in the community. The unit employs innovative methods and technologies for of breast disease surgery, as well as individually tailoring the surgical treatment without forgetting the person behind the disease.
Services provided by the unit
Screening and follow-up clinic: patients without complaints undergo manual screening by a breast surgeon, with a recommendation to complete tests as needed. Patients after surgical treatment, biopsy, or clarification of findings in previous tests.
Fast response clinic: patients who turn to the unit due to a new finding which raises suspicion of a cancerous tumor. The purpose of the clinic is shortening the process of testing and treatment.
Actions and surgery
Breast surgery for cancerous and benign tumors, in line with the most up to date guidelines and standards. Emphasis on the importance of the aesthetic results, and the personal aspects of breast disease.
The surgical procedures performed at the unit include: lumpectomy, various kinds of mastectomy, including preservation of skin and nipple, reconstruction (in cooperation with a surgeon from the field of plastic surgery), sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary lymph node dissection.
For every male or female patient diagnosed with breast cancer or with findings that are not unequivocal during testing, there is a thought process and building a multidisciplinary program together with experts in the fields of radiology, oncology, surgery, pathology, and plastic surgery. |
