About the Service

Various uterine conditions can negatively impact women at different stages of their lives. These include polyps, fibroids, structural abnormalities such as uterine septa, niches following cesarean sections, intrauterine adhesions (Asherman's syndrome), bleeding after menopause, heavy and irregular periods, challenging intrauterine device removal, as well as fertility disorders that lead to inflammation, recurrent miscarriages, and difficulties with spontaneous conception or fertility treatments.

At the Center for Hysteroscopy and Uterine Surgery, we perform procedures to diagnose and treat the underlying cause of your complaints.

We perform procedures such as endometrial biopsies, removal of polyps, fibroids and retained pregnancy tissue, repair of uterine abnormalities such as septa, remove intrauterine devices (IUDs) when removal at community clinics has been unsuccessful, and treatment of many gynecological disorders.

Examination and Treatment

At the Center for Hysteroscopy and Uterine Surgery, procedures are performed using the see-and-treat approach, leveraging the most advanced technologies and using an ultra-thin optical fiber.

The procedures are performed in the clinic, do not require anesthesia and you can be discharged and go home right after treatment.

If you would rather undergo the procedure under anesthesia, please contact the outpatient operating room at Hillel Yaffe or consult your gynecologist about personalization of the procedure at a general gynecology clinic.

During an in-clinic hysteroscopy, we examine the uterine cavity with a hysteroscope (optical fiber), which allows us to identify any issues that may require investigation or treatment and, when necessary, perform the treatment in the same session.

During the procedure, we will communicate with you the entire time and do our very best to make the experience comfortable with music or other soothing measures. The nurse will help you put on a gown, and the doctor will cover you as much as possible throughout the procedure.

How do you know if an in-clinic hysteroscopy is the best option for you, or if you would rather have the procedure performed under anesthesia in the operating room?

The in-clinic hysteroscopy is short, quick and safe. It may be accompanied by discomfort, lower abdominal pressure and sometimes pain much like menstrual cramps. The procedure is usually performed without inserting a speculum (vaginal spreading instrument), which helps reduce discomfort. However, pain is a personal experience and can vary for each woman. Know that if you feel discomfort or pain at any time and want to stop, the procedure will be stopped immediately.

There are various considerations that can help you decide if an in-clinic hysteroscopy without anesthesia is the right choice for you. You may want to consider another option if:

  • You faint during menstruation due to pain.
  • You have experienced severe pain during vaginal examinations in the past.
  • You experience pain during Pap smears.
  • You have a history of traumatic or triggering events that may make gynecological examinations difficult for you.
  • You would rather not be awake during the procedure.

The entire staff of the Center for Hysteroscopy and Uterine Surgery wish you good health and a positive experience with us.
